What Is a FibroScan® Exam?
FibroScan® uses a specialized ultrasound-based technology to measure two critical aspects of liver health in a single exam:

Who Should Consider This Test?

Already Diagnosed with Fatty Liver on Ultrasound?
If you have previously been diagnosed with fatty liver disease on an abdominal ultrasound, a FibroScan® exam is an important next step. While ultrasound can detect the presence of fat in the liver, FibroScan® goes further — it precisely measures both the degree of fat accumulation and the level of liver stiffness (fibrosis), which helps your provider determine whether there has been any progression toward scarring or more advanced liver disease. We strongly encourage you to schedule your FibroScan® and follow-up appointment so we can get a complete picture of your liver health.
How to Prepare for Your Appointment

Do not eat or drink anything other than water for at least 3 hours before your scheduled exam. Food intake can temporarily affect liver stiffness readings.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the right side of your rib cage.

Take your usual medications as prescribed, unless otherwise instructed by your provider.

Your FibroScan® Test Day
FibroScan® Liver Exam
A trained member of our clinical team will perform your FibroScan® exam. The test takes approximately 5–10 minutes. It is painless, requires no needles or sedation, and results are captured immediately by the device. Remember to fast for at least 3 hours before your appointment.
VISIT 2
Approximately 1 Week Later
Results Review with Your Provider
You will return for a follow-up visit with one of our physicians or nurse practitioners to review your FibroScan® results in detail. Your provider will explain what the findings mean for your liver health, discuss any recommended next steps — such as lifestyle changes, additional testing, or specialist referral — and answer all of your questions.
